Playing the recorder

The last few weeks we have started learning to play the recorder and read music. It is very challenging to learn to play an instrument. You need to coordinate so many things at the same time: your breathing, fingers, and tongue. Also you need to listen, play together and read the music at the same time. It is an amazing feat and you are starting to make great sounds. Keep up the great work.

If you have a recorder at home, you can practise.

Remember that your left hand plays the top holes and your right hand the bottom holes.
Blow softly and smoothly. If the holes are not covered properly, you may hear a squeaky windy sound.
Have fun. Make up your own music.

When you have finished playing, wash the recorder out with warm water and let it air-dry standing up in a jar.
